These spooky witch finger pretzel rods are a quick and easy Halloween treat made with just five ingredients. They look convincingly creepy with almond sliver fingernails and a green white chocolate coating, perfect for parties and guaranteed to be a crowd-pleaser.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1215 pretzel rods (thick, sturdy ones like Snyder’s of Hanover)
  • 12 ounces (340 grams) white chocolate chips (e.g., Ghirardelli)
  • About 30 almond slivers (raw, not roasted or salted)
  • 1/4 teaspoon green gel food coloring (e.g., Wilton’s Leaf Green)
  • 1 teaspoon coconut oil (refined, for smooth melting)
  • Optional: red gel food coloring for blood effects
  • Optional: powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Line a baking sheet with wax paper and set aside. Count out about 30 almond slivers.
  2. Place white chocolate chips and coconut oil in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals at 50% power, stirring well after each interval, until mostly melted. Stir until completely smooth.
  3. Add green gel food coloring (start with 1/8 teaspoon) and stir thoroughly until you achieve a pale, sickly green color.
  4. Hold a pretzel rod by one end and dip the bottom two-thirds into the melted green chocolate, rotating to coat evenly. Let excess drip off, then place on the prepared baking sheet. Repeat with remaining pretzels, working in batches of 4-5 to keep chocolate warm.
  5. While the chocolate is still wet, press a whole almond sliver into the tip of each coated pretzel at a slight downward angle, with the pointed end extending about 1/4 inch beyond the pretzel tip to form a fingernail.
  6. Press a broken almond half (or a small piece) into the chocolate about 1/2 inch below the fingernail to create a knuckle. Angle it slightly for realism.
  7. Optional: Use a toothpick or small knife to add a tiny dot of red gel food coloring at the base of each almond fingernail for a blood effect.
  8. Optional: Use the back of a spoon to create small indentations and lines along the pretzel for wrinkles and texture.
  9. Place the baking sheet in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes, or until the chocolate is completely firm.
  10. Carefully peel the witch finger pretzel rods off the wax paper. Let them sit at room temperature for about 10 minutes before serving. Arrange on a platter and enjoy.

Notes

Work in small batches to keep chocolate warm. Press almond fingernails at a slight downward angle for realism. For best flavor, make a day ahead. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days, or freeze for up to 3 months. Do not store in the refrigerator long-term.
