natural electrolyte summer sports drink recipe - featured image

A simple, natural, and refreshing homemade electrolyte drink made with fresh lemons, raw honey, sea salt, and water, perfect for hydration on hot days.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 medium-sized fresh lemons, juiced
  • 3 tablespoons raw honey (or maple syrup/agave for vegan option)
  • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt (Himalayan pink salt works too)
  • 4 cups (32 fl oz) pure water (filtered or spring water preferred)
  • Optional: a few sprigs fresh mint leaves
  • Optional: replace 1 cup water with coconut water

Instructions

  1. Roll each lemon firmly on the counter, cut in half, and juice to get about 1/2 cup (4 fl oz) lemon juice. Strain if less pulp is desired.
  2. In a pitcher, combine 3 tablespoons raw honey with 1/4 teaspoon sea salt. Add 1/2 cup (4 fl oz) warm water and stir until honey and salt are fully dissolved.
  3. Add the lemon juice and remaining 3 1/2 cups (28 fl oz) cold water or a mix of water and coconut water. Stir gently to combine.
  4. If using, bruise a few fresh mint leaves and add to the pitcher. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to infuse flavors.
  5. Serve chilled over ice. Adjust sweetness or saltiness by adding more honey or salt if desired.

Notes

Use fresh lemon juice for best flavor. Dissolve honey and salt thoroughly in warm water to avoid gritty texture. Adjust sweetness last to taste. Coconut water can be used to boost potassium and add natural sweetness. Chill the drink for at least 30 minutes before serving for best flavor. Store leftovers in a sealed glass container in the fridge for up to 3 days and stir before serving.
