These Frankenstein Guacamole Deviled Avocados are a quick, easy, and fun Halloween appetizer that tastes as amazing as it looks. Creamy guacamole is piped into hollowed avocado halves and decorated with olive ‘bolts’ for a spooky, crowd-pleasing treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 ripe avocados
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
  • 1/4 cup finely diced red onion
  • 1 jalapeño, seeded and minced
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 12–16 black olives, sliced crosswise
  • 1 tablespoon sour cream or Greek yogurt (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cut each avocado in half lengthwise and remove the pit. Use a spoon to gently scoop out the avocado flesh, leaving about 1/4 inch of flesh attached to the skin. Place the hollowed-out avocado shells on a serving platter and set aside.
  2. In a medium mixing bowl, add the scooped-out avocado flesh. Add the fresh lime juice immediately to prevent browning. Mash with a fork until you reach your desired consistency — mostly smooth with a few small chunks.
  3. Stir in the diced red onion, minced jalapeño, and chopped cilantro. Add the salt, cumin, and black pepper. Mix until everything is well combined. Taste and adjust seasoning.
  4. If using sour cream or Greek yogurt, stir it in now.
  5. Spoon the guacamole mixture into a piping bag or a zip-top bag. If using a zip-top bag, squeeze the mixture into one corner and snip off about 1/2 inch from the tip.
  6. Pipe the guacamole into each hollowed-out avocado half, mounding it slightly above the edge.
  7. Press two sliced black olives into each filled avocado half to create the ‘bolts’ on the sides of the head. Optionally, carve small mouth shapes into the guacamole.
  8. Chill the platter in the refrigerator for 10-15 minutes before serving (optional but recommended).
  9. Arrange on a platter and serve immediately. Best enjoyed within an hour of making.

Notes

For best results, use avocados that are ripe but still firm. Work quickly with lime juice to prevent browning. The guacamole filling can be made up to 24 hours ahead; store with plastic wrap pressed directly onto the surface. Do not reheat leftovers.
