These Light & Easy Mummy Hot Dogs are a fun, kid-friendly Halloween meal made with lean chicken or turkey sausages wrapped in flaky crescent dough. Ready in under 20 minutes, they’re a healthier twist on a classic spooky treat that’s perfect for busy weeknights or parties.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 chicken or turkey sausages (e.g., Applegate or Al fresco)
  • 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough (e.g., Pillsbury)
  • Ketchup (for the eyes)
  • Mustard (optional, for a scary face)
  • 1 large egg (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon water (for egg wash)
  • Sesame seeds or poppy seeds (optional, for ‘mummy dust’)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Pat the chicken or turkey sausages dry with a paper towel.
  3. Unroll the crescent roll dough on a clean cutting board. Press the seams gently to seal, then cut the dough lengthwise into thin strips about ¼ inch wide (6-8 strips per triangle).
  4. Take one sausage and start wrapping a dough strip around it, starting at one end and working to the other, leaving a small gap at the top for the face. Do not wrap too tightly; overlap strips slightly for a ‘bandaged’ look.
  5. Place the wrapped sausages seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet, leaving about an inch of space between each.
  6. In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water. Brush this egg wash lightly over the exposed dough strips.
  7. Use a toothpick or knife tip to make two small indentations on the exposed sausage at the top for the eyes. Squeeze a tiny dot of ketchup into each indentation. Optionally, add a tiny line of mustard next to the eye for a scary face.
  8. Bake for 12-15 minutes, until the dough is golden brown and puffy and the sausage is heated through.
  9. Remove from the oven and let cool on the baking sheet for 2-3 minutes.
  10. Serve immediately, optionally with extra ketchup for dipping.

Notes

For best results, use cold dough for easier cutting. Do not overcrowd the pan to ensure crispiness. Ketchup eyes can be added after baking if you’re worried about burning. For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free crescent dough. For a dairy-free version, skip the egg wash and brush with olive oil.
