These colorful fruit kabobs are a quick, easy, and fun snack perfect for kids and celebrations, featuring fresh strawberries, blueberries, bananas, green grapes, and apples arranged to resemble a patriotic flag.

Ingredients

  • Strawberries (fresh, hulled, and halved if large)
  • Blueberries (washed and patted dry)
  • Banana (ripe but firm, sliced into thick rounds about 1/4 inch thick)
  • Green grapes (seedless, halved if large)
  • Apple (firm, sliced into cubes or wedges; Granny Smith or Fuji recommended)
  • Wooden skewers (6-inch length)
  • Optional: Honey or yogurt dip

Instructions

  1. Rinse all fruits thoroughly under cold water. Pat dry with a clean kitchen towel or paper towels to avoid soggy kabobs.
  2. Remove the green tops from strawberries and slice large strawberries in half. Smaller ones can stay whole.
  3. Cut bananas into thick rounds about 1/4 inch thick to prevent breaking when skewered.
  4. Core and slice apples into bite-sized cubes or wedges, roughly 1 inch pieces. Toss with a little lemon juice to avoid browning if desired.
  5. Halve grapes if large to keep sizes consistent and safe for kids.
  6. Assemble the kabobs by threading 2-3 strawberries (red), then 2-3 banana slices (yellow), followed by 2-3 green grapes or apple pieces (green), and finish with a few blueberries (blue) to mimic the colors of the flag. Repeat if the skewer is long enough.
  7. Lay the completed kabobs on a platter. Offer a side of honey or yogurt dip if desired.

Notes

Use fresh, firm fruit to prevent mushy kabobs. Soak wooden skewers in water for 15 minutes before use if grilling. Assemble kabobs just before serving to keep fruit fresh and crisp. Substitute fruits as desired for allergies or preferences. Supervise kids during assembly to avoid pokes or splinters.
