A quick and easy one-pan meal featuring tender chicken breasts and crisp green beans coated in a sweet and savory honey garlic sauce, perfect for busy weeknights.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (about 1.5 pounds / 700 g)
  • 12 ounces fresh green beans, trimmed (about 340 g)
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce (low-sodium preferred)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • Ground black pepper, to taste
  • Salt, to taste
  • Red pepper flakes (optional, a pinch)

Instructions

  1. Rinse and trim the green beans. Pat the chicken breasts dry with paper towels. Mince the garlic cloves finely.
  2. Lightly salt and pepper both sides of the chicken breasts.
  3. Place a large skillet over medium-high heat and add 1 tablespoon olive oil. Heat until shimmering but not smoking.
  4. Add the chicken breasts to the pan and cook without moving until the underside is golden brown and releases easily, about 4 minutes. Flip and cook the other side for 3 minutes. Chicken will not be fully cooked yet.
  5. Transfer the chicken to a clean plate. Pour off any excess fat, leaving about a teaspoon in the pan.
  6. Add the remaining tablespoon of olive oil to the pan, then add the green beans. Toss and cook for 4-5 minutes until bright green and tender-crisp. Season lightly with salt and pepper.
  7. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  8. Add honey, soy sauce, and apple cider vinegar. Stir well to combine and bring to a gentle simmer.
  9. Return the chicken breasts to the pan, nestling them among the green beans. Spoon some sauce over the top.
  10. Lower heat to medium-low, cover loosely, and cook for 5-7 minutes until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165ยฐF (74ยฐC) and the sauce thickens and becomes sticky.
  11. Remove the cover. If the sauce needs thickening, increase heat slightly and cook for another minute, spooning sauce over the chicken. Sprinkle with red pepper flakes if using.
  12. Serve hot, drizzling extra sauce from the pan over the chicken and green beans.

Notes

Pat chicken dry before seasoning to ensure proper browning. Avoid overcrowding the pan to prevent steaming. Add garlic after green beans start softening to avoid burning. Use a meat thermometer to check chicken doneness. Leftovers reheat well in a skillet with a splash of water to loosen sauce.
