This easy copycat Lunchable bento box is a quick, affordable, and endlessly adaptable lunch that kids actually eat. It takes under 10 minutes to pack and uses simple, wholesome ingredients.

Ingredients

  • Whole-wheat crackers (about 12-15)
  • Cheddar cheese (block, cut into small rectangles)
  • Turkey slices (low-sodium, nitrate-free, 2-3 slices)
  • Seedless red grapes (handful)
  • Cherry tomatoes (optional, halved)
  • Baby carrots (handful)
  • Hummus (2 tablespoons)
  • Apple slices (tossed with lemon juice)
  • Dark chocolate chips (1 tablespoon)

Instructions

  1. Wash your produce. Rinse grapes, cherry tomatoes, and baby carrots under cold water and pat dry.
  2. Slice the cheese. Cut cheddar block into small rectangles (about 1 inch by 1/2 inch) or use cookie cutters for fun shapes.
  3. Prepare the protein. Stack turkey slices and slice into quarters, or roll into logs and slice into pinwheels.
  4. Cut the fruit. Halve grapes lengthwise for younger kids; slice apple into thin wedges and toss with lemon juice.
  5. Portion the veggies. Place baby carrots in one compartment; halve cherry tomatoes and add to same or separate compartment.
  6. Add the dip. Spoon about 2 tablespoons of hummus into a small silicone cup or compartment.
  7. Pack the crackers. Place a generous handful (12-15) of crackers in the largest compartment.
  8. Add the treat. Sprinkle 1 tablespoon of dark chocolate chips into a small corner or separate cup.
  9. Assemble and close. Arrange everything in compartments, close lid tightly, add an ice pack to lunchbox, and refrigerate until packing.

Notes

Keep wet and dry ingredients separate to avoid soggy crackers. Cut cheese and meat the night before to save time. Let your kid help pack to encourage eating. Rotate fruit and veggies for variety.
