A classic, warm apple crisp featuring tart-sweet Honeycrisp apples and a crunchy, buttery oat pecan topping. This easy dessert comes together in under 30 minutes and is perfect for any season.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 to 5 medium Honeycrisp apples, peeled and sliced
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Peel, core, and slice apples into 1/4 inch thick slices. Place in a large mixing bowl.
  3. Sprinkle granulated sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla extract over the apples. Toss gently to coat and let sit for 10 minutes.
  4. Pour the apple mixture into a 9×9 inch baking dish and spread evenly.
  5. In a separate bowl, combine rolled oats, flour, brown sugar, chopped pecans, and salt.
  6. Pour melted butter over the dry topping ingredients and mix with a fork or fingers until the mixture resembles coarse sand.
  7. Sprinkle the oat mixture evenly over the apples without pressing down.
  8. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes until the topping is golden brown and the edges are bubbling.
  9. Cool for at least 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

For extra nutty flavor, toast pecans in a dry pan for 2-3 minutes before chopping. Use real butter for best results. If the topping browns too quickly, cover loosely with foil. Can be made dairy-free by substituting butter with plant-based butter or coconut oil, and gluten-free by using GF flour and oats.
