A rich, creamy chocolate dip that tastes like hot cocoa in dippable form. Ready in just 5 minutes with simple pantry ingredients, this is the perfect last-minute dessert for cozy nights, parties, or unexpected guests.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (natural, not Dutch-processed)
  • 2 tablespoons milk (or more as needed)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 sleeve graham crackers, broken into pieces
  • Optional: 1/4 cup mini marshmallows for topping
  • Optional: 1 tablespoon chocolate shavings for garnish

Instructions

  1. Soften the cream cheese and butter by leaving them at room temperature for 30 minutes, or microwaving in 10-second bursts until soft but not melted.
  2. In a medium mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and butter together with an electric mixer on medium speed until smooth and fluffy, about 2 minutes. Scrape down the sides of the bowl halfway through.
  3. Sift the powdered sugar and cocoa powder together over the bowl to avoid lumps. Beat on low speed until incorporated, then increase to medium speed and beat for another minute until smooth.
  4. Add the milk, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Beat on medium speed until silky and spreadable, about 1 minute. Adjust consistency with additional milk or powdered sugar if needed.
  5. Transfer the dip to a serving bowl and smooth the top. Cover and refrigerate for up to 24 hours, or serve immediately.
  6. If desired, top with mini marshmallows and chocolate shavings. Arrange graham cracker pieces around the bowl and serve.

Notes

For best results, use room temperature cream cheese and butter to avoid lumps. Natural unsweetened cocoa powder gives the classic hot cocoa flavor. The dip can be made up to 24 hours in advance; let it sit at room temperature for 15 minutes before serving. For a dairy-free version, use vegan cream cheese and plant-based butter. For a peppermint variation, add 1/4 teaspoon peppermint extract. For a spiced Mexican version, add 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, a pinch of cayenne, and a dash of nutmeg.
