Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons whole milk or cream
  • Fresh chives or parsley, finely chopped (optional garnish)
  • 6 slices thick-cut bacon
  • 2 slices whole-grain or sourdough bread
  • Butter or olive oil, for spreading
  • 1 cup mixed berries (blueberries, strawberries, raspberries)
  • 1 small banana, sliced (optional)
  • 1 cup freshly brewed coffee
  • Milk or cream, to taste
  • Sugar or sweetener, optional
  • Small jar of honey or jam, for spreading
  • A handwritten note or a small flower for the tray (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Arrange bacon slices on a wire rack over a baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes until crispy. Drain on paper towels.
  2. Toast bread slices until golden brown using a toaster or broiler. Spread butter or olive oil immediately and keep warm by wrapping in a clean towel.
  3. Crack eggs into a mixing bowl. Add milk or cream, salt, and pepper. Whisk vigorously until uniform and slightly frothy.
  4. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium-low heat and melt butter. Pour in egg mixture and gently stir with a spatula, scraping edges to form soft curds. Remove from heat just before fully set. Garnish with chopped chives or parsley if desired.
  5. Brew one cup of fresh coffee using preferred method. Add milk or cream and sweetener to taste. Pour into a warm mug.
  6. On a serving tray, place scrambled eggs, bacon, toast, and a small bowl or plate of mixed fresh fruit. Add the coffee cup and a small jar of honey or jam. Optionally, tuck in a handwritten note or a small flower.
  7. Before serving, ensure everything is warm. Reheat toast wrapped in foil in a low oven if needed. Carry the tray carefully and tuck a soft blanket around Dad before placing the tray on his lap.

Notes

Cook bacon ahead of time and reheat to save time. Use low heat for eggs to keep them creamy. Keep ingredients warm during assembly using towels or warm plates. Customize with seasonal fruits or vegetarian substitutes like sautéed mushrooms or halloumi. Gluten-free bread or rice cakes can be used for gluten-free option.
