A deep, jewel-toned crimson Halloween punch that’s balanced, refreshing, and lets the blood orange flavor shine. This easy, make-ahead cocktail is perfect for parties and tastes like it came from a haunted cocktail bar.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6–8 medium fresh blood oranges (about 2 cups juice)
  • 1/2 cup fresh lime juice
  • 1/4 cup honey, plus more to taste
  • 1/4 cup warm water (for dissolving honey)
  • 1/2 cup ginger liqueur (optional, recommended)
  • 1 cup vodka (such as Tito’s or Ketel One)
  • 2 cups club soda or sparkling water
  • Ice (large block or several large cubes)
  • Blood orange slices, fresh rosemary or mint, edible flowers (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Juice the blood oranges and limes. Roll them firmly on the countertop before cutting to release more juice. You should have about 2 cups blood orange juice and 1/2 cup lime juice. Strain through a fine-mesh strainer into a pitcher to remove seeds.
  2. In a small bowl, combine 1/4 cup honey with 1/4 cup warm water. Whisk until the honey is completely dissolved.
  3. Pour the honey mixture, blood orange juice, lime juice, ginger liqueur (if using), and vodka into the pitcher. Stir well to combine. Taste and adjust sweetness or tartness as needed.
  4. Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or overnight, to allow flavors to meld.
  5. The night before serving, fill a small loaf pan with water and freeze solid to create an ice block. Optionally, add blood orange slices or rosemary to the water before freezing.
  6. Just before serving, remove the ice block from the loaf pan. Place it in the pitcher or punch bowl. Pour the club soda over the top and gently stir.
  7. Garnish with thin slices of blood orange and fresh rosemary sprigs. Pour into ice-filled glasses and serve immediately.

Notes

For best results, use fresh blood oranges and fresh lime juice—bottled juice will result in a flat flavor. The base can be made up to 3 days in advance; add club soda and ice just before serving. For a non-alcoholic version, omit vodka and ginger liqueur and replace with cold water or hibiscus tea. For a spicy twist, muddle 2-3 slices of fresh jalapeño in the pitcher before adding other ingredients. The punch can also be served warm in winter by gently heating the base on the stovetop.
